HANDCRAFTED TONE

Wilkinson’s R Series Caliber 5052 WVOB utilises all the knowledge we have garnered from producing pickups for over two decades, the Caliber 5052 WVOB is our closest replica of the classic T bridge pickup from the early 1950’s.

While a very uncomplicated unit in construction capturing the exact tone and twang of the 50’s T bridge pickup requires a mixture of ingredients and careful construction techniques, our Caliber 5052 WVOB uses a copper plated steel keeper plate, 5mm diameter Alnico V magnets, and black fiber top and bottom plates that are dipped in clear lacquer before being air dried, winding with AWG42 gauge wire each pickup is wax potted and wrapped in black cotton.

The Caliber 5052 WVOB delivers a full powerful T tone from its flat flush pole design, bright but full bodied this pickup cuts through with classic twang.

R Series Creation

Trev Wilkinson’s induction into music was through the tones of what we now call iconic or legendary players, the sounds these artists produced inspired Trev’s playing and also his future in music.

While Hank Marvin’s use of vibrato peaked the young inventor’s interest in a device that would become such an integral part of the Wilkinson brand, the tone and sound created by Clapton, Beck, Green and other influential players was a massive influence as were the instruments and components that created these tones.

The R series of pickups is the result of years of listening to pickups, time spent with legendary inventors such as Seth Lover and Leo Fender discussing all aspects about sound, materials and production methods, add these ingredients to hours and hours of testing and tweaking and you have the R series, our finest pickups.
