Listening to Andy Wood is a magical experience, a fusion of many genres, his playing is inspiring and exciting to hear, smoothly moving through Blues, Country, Rock and Jazz with melody, feel and the fluid technique of years of experience.
A Highly accomplished Mandolin player, Andy cut his teeth competing in Blues-grass festivals, gaining many titles for his playing and finishing second in the prestigious Mandolin World Championship Contest while still only sixteen years old!
The electric guitar was a draw for Andy and was soon in his arsenal of instruments, inspired by listening to great players such as, Steve Morse, Eddie Van Halen, Joe Satriani, Albert Lee and Brent Mason, took Andy in new directions and expanded his musical vocabulary.
Entering competition again, Andy took the winning title in the Guitar Centre sponsored “Guitarmaggedon” event, performing in front of an astounding 3400 other contestants, this while still only 22 years old.
The present day sees an accomplished artist that has toured with established names such Rascal Flatts, Sebastian Bach and Scott Stapp, as well as being a founder member of the band, “Down from up”. To date Andy has released three self titled CD’s namely, A disconcerting amalgam, Junktown and Caught between the truth and a lie.
As well as performing with his band and others, Andy is a phenomenal inspiration and teacher for other players with a host of teaching videos and You tube content to help players take their playing to the next level.
Andy uses the Wilkinson WT3 Pro series bridge on his Suhr signature model and WLS130S locking saddles on his Suhr Modern.
I’ve trusted the hardware bridge duties on my hardtail signature Suhr to the fine folks at Wilkinson and it has served up tonal goodness and delightful playability for years!
